2 Month CheckUp

The babies had their 2 month checkup. The pediatrician believes they are acting like 2 month olds, not 1 week olds. Even though they are actually 2 months old, their 'adjusted age' is taken from their due date which was on 11/25. Technically, we are supposed to track milestones according to their adjusted age and not their real age, up until they are 1 year old.

They had vaccines. =( Poor babies! She also said we should start trying to feed them more at each feeding and stretch out their feedings. She was surprised they weren't yet sleeping for 4-5 hours straight at night. I'm interested to see if she is right! It still feels a little early to me yet to be expecting that. We'll just see how it goes over the next couple of weeks as we try to increase the amount they are eating.

In the meantime, here are their latest weights and lengths:

Walter - 8lb4oz, 20 3/4 inch
Gordon - 9lb 11oz, 21 3/4 inch
Adele - 8lb 11oz, 21 1/4 inch

And the babies are discovering their hands and now they help us hold their bottles.

Here's Walt being fed by Grandma Elaine.

Here's Gordon being fed by me!

Here's Adele being fed again by Grandma Elaine.

  1. Glad they are doing so well! How much are they getting each feeding?

  2. Right now they are doing 3oz per feeding. The pediatrician thought we could get them to 4-5oz per feed. I just don't know!

  3. Our guys aren't quite up to 2 oz yet. We'll probably move all feeds to 2 oz tomorrow though. I was wondering if that was enough, we are going by their cues though. We don't go back to the pediatrician until January since Home Health is coming out for their monthly Synagis shot.

  4. Just think how huge you would have been if they were the size that they were on the 25th!!!
They are doing so wonderfully. I'm sure that they will live up to the pediatrician's expectations soon. I know that you guys wouldn't object to sleeping a couple hours straight yourselves. What week old baby sleeps 4-5 hours though?

  5. Sounds like they are doing wonderfully well. Woohoo!

Here is the point where you start going with your gut on the feedings since you now have real newborn sizes. Don't push it because of a particular "age" or a set time someone else thinks they "should" be sleeping. Observe the babies and how they are doing. I used to see if they would drink a bottle dry a couple of times before increasing by an ounce.

My daughter was full term and she ate every 3 hours around the clock for what seemed like forever I think it was 4 months before she started sleeping 4 hours a night and it was first grade before she slept all night. LOL. She may still be waking up to eat during the night even now at 30. She's perfectly normal and healthy - just has a very fast metabolism. Heh.

  6. When we increased by an ounce, it took awhile before he'd drink all of the new offering. Parenting advice is just like writing advice -- you listen to what the "experts" say, then trust your instincts and follow the babies' cues.

Wow, Gordon is a full pound bigger than his siblings ... sure he's not getting extra helpings already? ;-)
