I thought I'd share a few images from my hospital room. This first photo is how I look twice a day for 30 to 90 minutes depending on how the babies are cooperating. It usually takes two nurses to hold the monitors on my tummy so they can get a solid 20 minutes of the babies' heartrates. Gordon and Adele have been fairly cooperative. They may buck and kick at the straps and monitors, but they stay in place. Walter varies his positioning a lot and somehow runs away from the monitor, making the nurses' jobs that much more difficult. Little stinker!

My friend Lisa came to visit me yesterday and brought flowers to brighten up the room. The bouquet is very fall. Now I just wish the weather would follow suit. She also brought me a set of mini puzzles of kittens. I have them displayed on the fridge because they are just too adorable for words. This fridge is at the end of my bed and directly in my line of sight.

My Aunt Rosemary mentioned that I look like my mom in my pregnancy photos. I think my maternal features have been highlighted by my shorter hair. My dad sent a photo for comparison. It shows we definitely have one feature in common -- big, fat belly!! My mom is 8 months pregnant with Matt in this photo in June of 1977. It is taken in our backyard in Germany and Dad says I'm playing in a pool off camera which is why mom is in her swimsuit. Isn't she adorable?
LOL - yes you do look like your mom.
ReplyDeleteInteresting that they want to do 20 minutes of heart rate twice a day. This must be a newer thing. It used to be they would check the heart rate and be sure it was okay for a couple minutes and that was it. Ah medicine... it certainly moves along doesn't it.
The thing that surprises me the most is that you can lay on your back that long. I couldn't went I was that big with my kids. Maybe it's different with 3 of them instead of one big one. ;-)
You look pretty relaxed for having all those hands prodding you, from inside and out!
ReplyDeleteT- I think the new thing is they like to see a certain amount of 're-activeness' to stimuli in that amount of time with increases and decreases in heartbeat. And the photo angle is a little off. I reclined up quite a bit so that I'm actually borderline sitting. Laying flat on my back is a killer.
ReplyDeleteLiz - Part of the reason I'm relaxed is the nurses joke and chat with me a lot. Plus, Jeff was there which always makes things better. And I've gotten to where I look forward to hearing those heartbeats. I'm so close now that sometimes I can make myself a little anxious until I hear that thump-thump-thump!
Now that you mention it I see the bed is mostly upright. LOL.
ReplyDeleteYou and your mom are adorable :-)
ReplyDeleteSounds like Walter is going to be your little trouble maker. LOL
Very happy to hear that you are the babies are doing well and are receiving such wonderful care.
What is your plan after the babies are born? Are you going to hire a nanny to help? You'll need to sleep sometimes :-) I've been around sets of twins but never triplets. Can't even imagine what that schedule will be like!!
That was Michelle. Forgot to post my name at the end :-)
ReplyDeleteT -- Jeff took the photo and you know his perspective is different than most. *grin* Though he would say we're the different ones and he is normal.
ReplyDeleteMichelle -- Walter used to be my most cooperative one!! I'm having family out almost continuously the first few months, but then Jeff and I are still talking about what we're going to do. It is a hard decision, especially without knowing the babies yet. I'm clueless on what is to come, too, so I'm trying to just be open
Oh how exciting, coming down to the count down ;) You look darling and NOT so big laying down like that! I still love that side shot of you and now seeing your Mom's photo, SHE should have been having twins! Keep up the good work of keeping you and the babies healthy. Love you lots. Aunt Anne
ReplyDeleteMary -- It is so funny you say that! Everyone who comes in says 'oh, you don't look that big' until I stand up. LOL! The babies tend to shift to the sides when I lay down. Isn't mom so big? I guess that's what happens when you put a 9lb, 21 inch baby in the body of a woman only 5ft tall!
