For our first fourth of July back in the States, we met up with friends for a fest at their church. It is sponsored by the city of Gilbert. We got there around 6:15 and met up with others who'd already staked out a spot. The fest had music, contests, giveaways, and a number of on-site vendors. The weather was hot, but nowhere near as bad as I expected. And the kids had a good time. They mostly liked all the junk food they got to eat.

| We'd just arrived and took the kids to the splash pad to get wet so they wouldn't be hot all evening. |
| My kids only ran through a handful of times before they were done. It was just too crowded for them. |
| We went back to our spot to play with beach balls and attack all the snacks everyone had brought. |
| A rare photo of Jeff and me taken when kids are around. You can almost make out the rainbow behind us. |
| My kids spent a lot of time, just hanging out in their chairs. This photo was taken close to 7pm. Normally, they'd be reading books before crawling into bed by this time. |
| Enjoying snacks. Everyone had brought some to share and Jeff picked up more from the vendors who were selling hot dogs, cotton candy, kettle corn, and more. |

| The rainbow was there until the sun went down and only got brighter as the sun set. |
| They gave out free beach balls at the event |

| By 8pm, Walter was asking when the fireworks would start. By 8:30, both Walter and Gordon were asking to go home because they were tired, but they weren't too whiny. The fireworks started at 9pm and for the first 15 minutes, the kids were riveted. They 'oohed' and 'ahhed' and had the biggest grins on their faces. It was magical! |
