Kilkee

Jeff and I went to Lahinch, a beach town, last summer and ever since then I've been wanting to take the kids out to the beach. They've never experienced the beach or the sea before. Today, the fates finally aligned and we took the kids to Kilkee.

Kilkee is a beach town about 90minutes away that has a protected beach because it is in a cove.  I had talked to a number of people on where to go and they all recommended this beach with toddlers.

We got there early and luckily got a great parking spot. The kids were VERY crabby and quick to scream and throw tantrums, but they settled in once we were on the beach and eating some food.

Everyone experiencing the water for the first time. It was chilly, but not too bad because it was so shallow. The tide was moving in fast, though.
Walt wasn't sure what to make of the water. He wanted to play in it, but the sand rushing around and the waves hitting him, freaked him out. Jeff and I remember when he was the same about the ball pit, the grass, and the wading pool, but he's happy enough on all of them now. I have a feeling the next time we go, he'll be a little more adventurous. He still had a great time, but preferred to be in Mom or Dad's arms.

Walt had more fun with this bucket full of water than he did with the entire sea available to him

Walt was super happy to watch the waves from my arms

Gordon was in seventh heaven. He loved splashing in the water and playing on the sand. I think he could've stayed longer, but he simply wore himself out.

Adele was in such an awful mood, but she also loved the water.  She loved when the waves crested over her and she also really enjoyed taking her toys down to the water and filling them with water.  She played in the sand for a bit, but was happiest down by the sea.

Happy to be wet!
The kids were glad to climb into their strollers. They'd missed naptime and been in the sun for hours. We stopped and got ice cream on the way to the car. Then we loaded them up and they all took a nap on the way home.

  1. That looks like so much fun! A lot of work, I'm sure, but worth it for the awesome memories.

    1. It was some work, but not as much as I expected! I think the biggest thing was just planning ahead for food. I didn't even want to THINK about trying a restaurant on top of everything else.

Oh my gosh how much fun was that! :) And that picture of Adele... stunning! Gordon is being fearless in the waves!! But I'm with Walt, watching it from dad's arms... priceless! :)

    1. I absolutely LOVE that photo of Adele. I think Walt will be happy enough once he gets a chance to get used to the water. Then he'll be the one we'll have to restrain from running out full tilt.
