First, the not-great news:
- I have no protein update. Something got screwed up with my labs and the numbers came up obviously off. I'm re-doing the sample today (suck) and should have results late tomorrow
- Turns out, while all of my bloodwork has been normal, my liver enzymes have been climbing. That, more than anything, brings home to me that I really do have mild pre-e
- I'm still on the gestational diabetes diet so I still need to stay away from Starbucks awesome Pumpkin Spice latte
Now, for the fun stuff:
- Dr Barry, my MFM, came to see me and the babies have strong heartrates and are moving and breathing as babies should. They look awesome!
- Dr Barry mentioned scheduling a birth plan since he does not want to let me go much beyond 32 weeks so I brought this up with Dr Gooch, my OB. She agreed we should go ahead and schedule my c-section so the hospital and NICU staff can have time to prep.
- We chose Oct 1st. I have an end date! I'll be 32 weeks and 1 day. At this point, the babies are done developmentally and keeping them in womb would be for growth purposes. Since I'm pre-e, my doctors agree the risk of me ending up in ICU is not worth the benefit to the babies staying in womb.****DISCLAIMER: I could develop full pre-e or go into pre-term labor at any time forcing an earlier birth
- I hit 31 weeks yesterday! Another milestone made.
The coolness of Oct 1:
- Jeff and the babies will now have their individual birthday months (Jeff - Sept, Walter, Gordon, Adele - Oct) which is very important!
- Their birthdate is cool: 10-01-10
- The binary of their birthdate 100110 translates to the decimal number 38, which is how old Jeff turned yesterday on his birthday. Happy Birthday, love!
Everyone keep your fingers crossed! I'd love to see this Oct 1st birth happen now.
I just wanted to give a big thanks to all of my local, Austin friends. I have had so many visitors and gifts while in the hospital my heart simply overflows. I am blessed!
Wish I was down there so I could go see you but I'm soooo glad that things have gone well up to now (other than the fact that they keep screwing up your tests!!!)
ReplyDeleteOne week from today. Woo-Hooooo!!!!
I have a hair appt that day - I can say I'm getting my hair done in honor of the babies. LOL.
How utterly awesome if you can get to 10-1! We missed a 7-7-07 birth date for Daniel by three days.
ReplyDeleteWish I could be there to visit in person. Glad your local friends are pickling up Portland's slack. :) Keep getting all the rest you can, while you can.
Shirley
Good luck!!! We had our triplets at 32 weeks and they are doing great. The first week in NICU was a bit hard but they took off from there. Hoping you can make it to 10-1. Hugs, to you!!

Oh, so happy for you. As a number freak myself, I love the 10-01-10 combination. It has to be a computer geek that would think of the binary factor but that's fun also.
ReplyDeleteNice to have a date planned but we'll continue to pray that you don't go into labor early. Like they say, they want to have the delivery staff prepared for the wonderful event.
Aunt Rosemary
OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH how exciting...I'll keep the happy thoughts and prayers coming your way <3

T - Wish you were here, too, but you have been so awesome keeping my spirits up via e-mail, etc. And I like that-- get your hair done for our special day. *Grin*
ReplyDeleteShirley-- I didn't mean to slight all my amazing long-distance friends, but I just wanted to send a thank-you because I've been so amazed by my local friends & their support. I wish we could hit 10-10-10, but they would never let me go that long.
TF -- Thanks for stopping by!! And thanks, also, for your story of encouragement. I do worry about the 'preemieness' of the babies, but hearing from people who've been there, done that, makes me feel so much better.
Rosemary -- I knew with 2 geeky sons you'd appreciate Jeff's geekiness with the numbers. *grin* Thank you for your continued prayers.
Anne -- I'm both excited and scared. I don't know if I'm ready to be a 3x mom! And please do keep the prayers coming.
So glad you have a date picked out...less than a week away. Very exciting. I know you and Jeff will be glad to finally meet those three little ones. Hope everything goes well for you this next week. Tell then to keep the PBandJ coming!(BTW, Oct. 1 is my Aunt Chris's birthday.) Take care. Hugs....
ReplyDeleteThat's too cool, Joey! And if you go early, try for the 27th of Sept - that's my birthday! I could tell everyone I got triplets for my birthday. :D
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure, though, that you've thought through the repercussions of having four Librans in the same house....
My love and very best wishes to you - hoping it all goes to plan!

32 weeks should be good. Daniel came at 33 weeks, remember. Was breathing and maintaining his temp just fine but Mr. Picky didn't eat on the second day so they ran a feeding tube. Could have come home day #3 except he developed jaundice, which is very common, so he spent three days under the lights.
ReplyDeleteThe only thing I think you'll have to worry about is that docs have noticed a big uptick in the number of people developing asthma after age 50 who were preemies. But you'll forget all about that when you're trying to feed and diaper three hungry, poopy, squalling infants, functioning on three hours sleep in 24hours. :-)
Shirley
Forgot to say a belated "Happy Birthday" to Jeff. He is going to be a busy guy soon!!
ReplyDeleteOur c-section is scheduled for Oct 1st, too! :) Hang in there. I'm sure you'll make it.
ReplyDeleteMary -- It is almost too exciting. I don't quite believe it yet, so I ask my doc to confirm the date every time she comes to visit me. Jeff says 'thank you'!
ReplyDeleteJay -- As much as I'd love to give you such a wonderful b-day gift, I really want to hit that Oct 1st date. *grin*
Shirley -- I didn't realize Daniel was 33 weeks. For some reason, I had 36 stuck in my head. That is wonderfully encouraging! Your vision of my future, however, is not.
Robbie -- Congratulations!! Oct 1st is going to be a big day in the triplet community!
Hey, maybe you'll get lucky and your little angels will be the kind of newborns I heard about, who mostly eat, sleep and poop! Daniel was big on eating and pooping, but not so much on the sleep thing until we cured his colic. Acidophilus in his bottles saved our sanity. Gave him a daily dose for almost a year. Within two months of beginning treatment, he was sleeping 8 to 9 hours through the night.
ReplyDeleteIt's only the second and third months you think "shoot me now" on a semi-regular basis. ;-) The first month you're too enamored with your perfect new progeny, and by the fourth month you start getting more rest. You DO have lots of help lined up, right? A friend who had twins swore by her cradle swings, or strapping them into their car seats on top of the dryer. Good vibrations! :-)
Shirley
Fingers crossed for 10-01-10!!! I'll check in tomorrow to see if you have an update on your protein status.
ReplyDeleteGetting really excited for you Joey!! You are almost there.
Tell Jeff happy b-day for me :-)
Michelle
COOL BEANS Joey!! I know you and Jeff are ready to see these babies and start the next chapter of your lives. Sending lots of positive thoughts, prayers and hugs your way!
ReplyDeleteMich "-)
Shirley -- I'll have Jeff, my mom, then my mother-in-law out to help. That said, I still expect to be exhausted.
ReplyDeleteMichelle- I passed along the Happy b-day wishes. Jeff said thanks! I'm getting more excited every day.
Mich -- Thanks for all your prayers, hugs, and more. I'm so ready to start the next chapter and meet my babies. Every day I wonder more & more what they look like and what personalities they have!
