As any parent of newborns knows, they change almost daily. And we've seen a lot of changes in the babies in the past couple of weeks. They cry a lot more -- in fact from afternoon onward is a little tough in the Berube household. In general they do pretty well from 11pm until 7am(with a 3am feeding), which is a lot and allows us to get some sleep at night. They are smiling, talking, and interacting with us which is a lot of fun. They focus on us close and at a distance with their gazes. And they are reaching and noticing their toys.
In fact, here's a video of Adele reaching for her Christmas toy.
And here's Adele smiling up at me. She was trying to be cute to make up for the sleepless night she'd given me the night before.
Here's Gordon giving a smile. He's the most interactive with us. But this also means he's the one who wants to be held the most (lately).
The cats have adjusted very well to the babies. In fact, here are Earl (our baby cat) and Walter all snuggled up for a nap.
Now we're just waiting on our new 8oz bottles to arrive so that we can increase the amount of food we're offering during the day with the hope of helping them sleep longer at night.
Those are some cute babies! Love the video of Adele and all the photos, too. Glad they are sleeping better.
ReplyDeleteCan't imagine how exciting for you to get even a couple hours sleep at a stretch. As far as the afternoon mania, it seems that they just feed off each other. Who knows if you just had one they might just decide that it's their cranky time.

I am sorry for you that the little ones give you so little rest - have you tried - letting them sleep together or with you? Elsa sleeps with us in our bed - encouraged by the nurses in the hospital - and by a doctor in the family who said babies until the 6 month need cuddle time during the night and since Elsa sleeps through from 11pm to 7 am there she wakes for a feeding by touching my arm - I feed her half sleeping and we both doze off cuddling until 9 am.
ReplyDeleteI know with one baby that is much much much simpler.
I have a crick in my back because I have this net installed to keep Elsa from falling out because the net is held by two arms under the matrace and they are NOT peas. When it is my turn to lie there depending on which side to feed - it is most uncomfortable - I have not found a solution for this - :-) since I won't kick out Markus LOL - For feeding bottles during the night my friend (mother of four) recommends to have hot water in the thermos and cooked water in the fridge and with the exact amounts for both you get the right temp immediately - no waiting with a hysterical baby for the water to cook and the bottle to cool
.... have you tried breastfeeding Adele completely (no bottled milk) for a while and see if the reflux lessens?
I had to add eating nuts and müsli to my diet because I got real hunger attacks from nursing and only that helped ( I got chocolate craving I do not usually have and was still hungry and only gained weight because my body could use nothing of that for the milk) and for the nigth I have a sport bottle with water at my bed so I can drink while lying down. Enough of unasked advice - I know I am terrible -
Love to you and your gang -
